Plant Dyed Play Silks Workshop

Come spend a day on our homestead and create an entire rainbow of play silks! We will cover the process of mordanting, using a variety of fresh and dried whole plants as well as plant dye extracts, and some simple Shibori techniques. The whole family is welcome.  Each family (/ticket purchased) will receive 10 square 35”x35” play silks and 1 larger 22”x72” mama silk. All fiber, dye materials, and a workshop guide are included. It is a fun, informative, fulfilling day of creation in community and is an amazing way to not only acquire a big set of botanically dyed silks but to learn lots of dying wisdom as well! Some light refreshments will be provided.

What are play silks?

Play silks are a wonderfully fun, natural toy for little ones of all ages. They are open ended and can be used in so many ways over the years. Fabric to dance with, swaddles for dolls, dress up fabric, fort material, fabric to make backdrops or foundations for play scenes, or a mama bandana! The list goes on…there is an unlimited potential for play with these beautiful silks! Not to mention how lovely they are hanging on the wall. They have become a staple play item in our home and I know they will be in yours too!
